You might have noticed, but I use itchio a lot to find intersex stuff to add to my Intersex Media List. That is because the intersex tag there is nearly empty, so it's a lot easier for me to curate what I find there; if I go on amazon, I have to wade through 5000 mpreg books. On itchio I only have to scroll through like, 20. I also suspect that people on itchio just straight-up use the tag "futanari" for their bigenital fantasies, so the intersex tag is mostly unsearched and untouched.

Until now.

As of late, no less than two different authors have started posting erotica on the intersex tag that is very clearly not about intersex people. Reaching out to them to check the state of their intersex representation wielded results that very clearly showed that these people had no idea what "intersex" means, and most likely meant either futa or dickgirl.

Now, that would be fucking offensive no matter the context, but at least the furry intersex mod for some random video game seems to be made by someone who has no reason to look up what intersex "means" outside of fetish contexts. Both authors I'm talking about proudly proclaim that they are queer authors making queer stories for a queer audience. I said it before I said it again: it is fucking enraging to see that people who should be my fucking allies cannot be bothered to google up what a word means before clogging our tag with it. "Intersex people aren't real-life futas please stop conflating us" isn't some high-grade activism shite, literally every fucking intersex blogger, every online intersex tl;dr, even the tvtrope page on hermaphrodites will say that's a harmful stereotype.

Both of the authors I am talking about justified themselves with "well, this is a fantasy universe and not a 1:1 representation of intersex people." Now let's be clear: it is totally possible to put a fantasy spin to the whole intersex thing. "Intersex," broadly speaking, means "has sex characteristics outside of the norms." If you write about an alien specie that has 5 different sexes and your guy somehow doesn't fit in any of them, then your guy is intersex. If you're writing omegaverse and your omega has alpha pheromones or something, that's an intersex omega. It is possible to explore intersex narratives through fantasy. Hell I'm willing to let a futa character get a pass if they're actually treated as "this is a character with sex traits outside the norm and this is more than just a convenient kink." Alas none of this appears to be the case for the authors I'm talking about. Just "yeah it's fantasy so we don't have to do actual research, xoxoxo."

(Also, if I may: you people are the ones who decided to go into the intersex tag. You're the one claiming that character is intersex, not me. Perhaps you should give a shit about backing up your own claim??)

Let me say this: if you claim to write intersex characters while not doing the bare fucking minimum of research on intersex people, you are frankly embarrassing. If you're boasting about being a queer author writing queer characters and then blatantly spit in the face of your intersex siblings, I think you should be ashamed of yourself.

And because this is the internet: fucking obviously don't go harassing these authors. If you want to engage with them on the topic of intersex stuff then remember to be polite about it. Being mean to randos on the internet is not going to make them inclined to listen to you, and it's not going to improve the situation of intersex folks either. Behave.

Also, while I figure it's not too hard to figure out who I am I think this is the post that might doxx me, so: if you know who I am no you don't. This is MY obscure corner of the internet where I get to be a massive hater instead of playing it all "uwu you people seem to be mistaken about intersex stuff! Let me be polite and educational and harmless so you will listen to me!" Don't ruin this for me.
